The twisted yarn is woven, crocheted and knitted into many different types of items—from clothing and ceremonial accessories to fishing nets and bags. This yarn is completely natural and made without the use of chemicals or machines. The fibers are processed and spun by hand. The resulting yarn has a natural, rustic appeal. – Hemp fiber requires only a small amount of water and fertilizer to grow, does not require any pesticides, and can decompose naturally, making it an environmentally friendly textile raw material. Purely natural, undyed raw hemp fiber yarn is harvested and twisted by craftsmen in remote villages in Nepal. From fiber extraction from raw hemp stalks to spinning into thread, all work is done by hand. No chemicals are used. Lokta paper is handmade in the Himalayas and has been used for sacred texts since ancient times and has been a staple material for Nepali artisans for centuries. The paper is made from the Lokta shrub, which grows between 5,250 and 13,000 feet on the southern slopes of the Himalayas in Nepal. 【Environmentally friendly】 The Lokta shrub produces three to eight fast-growing new shoots and is one of the eco-friendly, renewable non-tree papers. The paper is not chemically treated and is handmade in high altitude countryside. 【Protecting Art】 Farmers, cottage industries and small industries in the hills depend on Lokta paper making for their livelihood. Used in sacred texts since ancient times, Lokta has been a staple material for Nepali craftsmen for centuries, a tradition that continues to this day. 【Natural color】 No chemical dyes are added during the paper production process, but the natural bark texture is retained, and petals and leaves are used, such as bougainvillea, marigold, cornflower, linden leaves and other natural plants. 【unique】 Handmade paper has a natural texture due to its handcrafting. Speckles of outer bark can be seen in the paper, making each page unique and special. Lokta paper making process 【harvest】 Cut the branches of the plant 20cm to 25cm above the ground. The bark of the harvested stems is peeled off with a sharp knife, then completely dried and stored. Since the plants are not uprooted, they will completely regenerate over the next few years and be ready for use again in approximately 6 years, making it a sustainable product. 【soften】 The stripped bark is cut into small pieces and soaked for several hours. Boil the plants for about 8 hours to soften the fibers, then wash them in cold water. Once cooled, beat it into a smooth paste using a hand mixer. 【Sifting】 Pour about a cupful of the pulp onto the wooden mesh frame and spread evenly. Any natural petals or seeds can be added to it at this stage. 【Sun exposure】 Drain the frame and dry it in the sun. ▌About Perch Treasures from Himālaya under the Himalayas: Perch is located on the small island of Taiwan. However, traditional craftsmanship has been widely forgotten as it does not fit into the modern economic model. Therefore, we work with Nepali craftsmen to realize Perch's design concept by supporting local communities, encouraging traditional craft techniques, providing reasonable wages, and based on fair trade whether on or offsite.
