Water-milled sand, Emperor sand, Purple-gold sand, and Crystal sand all belong to high-content quality cinnabar. Their **main differences lie in color, texture, hardness, and production methods**.
**「Water-Milled Sand」**
**True red, with a slight orange undertone. The surface has a warm, matte luster that will become brighter with wear, forming a patina.**
The production method involves repeatedly grinding cinnabar into fine particles to form a paste, stirring with water, collecting the upper "turbid liquid" after settling, and then allowing it to settle again (i.e., purification by water-milling). The bottom cinnabar mud is air-dried and then pressed using ancient methods. Even on the cross-section, uniform, fine mineral sparkles can be seen internally.
**「Emperor Sand」**
**The color is closer to true red, with a brighter hue and higher hardness.**
The production method involves purifying raw natural cinnabar through multiple processes such as **crushing/grinding/magnetic separation/water-milling/high polishing**, and then pressing it using ancient methods. Emperor Sand has almost no surface sparkle, but has internal sparkle. The surface uses a **high-polishing** process to achieve a metallic texture, especially under sunlight, where the metallic feel is maximized.
**「Purple-Gold Sand」**
**The color is purplish-red, and the hardness is slightly lower than Emperor Sand.**
The production method involves multiple processes such as **crushing/grinding/screening** from raw natural cinnabar, but **without water-milling purification**. Therefore, the surface is not as fine and has small, scattered mineral sparkles, giving a "starry sky" effect.
**「Crystal Sand」**
**The color is purplish-red and translucent.**
Large cinnabar particles are directly chipped from the cinnabar ore. The crystal particles are clearly visible on the surface, and under light, each particle is transparent, emitting a fluorescent red glow.
**> Spring Plowing and Autumn Harvest**
**Everything that unfolds, everything poetic, everything beautiful in this world, often happens naturally, just like the changing seasons.**
**Learn to slow down, clear your mind, treat life with softness, revere the power of time, and let everything grow naturally, like a tree, focusing and fearlessly growing clear growth rings.**
**Our craftsmanship is also like this!!**
**> Cinnabar**
The earliest written records refer to cinnabar with a single character, "丹" (dān). "丹" is an ideogram. In ancient times, miners would dig shafts and extract minerals from them. Thus, the character "丹" is actually the character "井" (jǐng, well) with a dot in the middle, signifying something extracted from a mine shaft. This something is cinnabar.
Because cinnabar is red, mostly deep red, "朱" (zhū) also means red. Later, cinnabar was called "朱砂" (zhūshā). "丹" and "朱" describe the color, and "砂" describes the shape, meaning irregular granular minerals.
Cinnabar's color is long-lasting. Chinese calligraphy and painting are called "丹青" (dānqīng), where "丹" refers to cinnabar. The indispensable "Eight Treasures Seal Ink" also has cinnabar as its main component.
From a Feng Shui perspective, cinnabar is collected from minerals that gather the essence of the sun and moon, absorbing the positive energy of heaven and earth. Therefore, cinnabar possesses a very strong Yang energy magnetic field. We can observe that jade feels cool in the hand, while cinnabar feels warm.
Since ancient times, cinnabar has been used in Taoist rituals such as drawing talismans, consecrating objects, warding off evil, and suppressing negative energies. Cinnabar has always been regarded as a supreme item for improving luck, suppressing evil, driving away spirits, attracting blessings, and accumulating wealth. It carries auspicious meanings of great fortune, wealth, and peace.
The "Shen Nong Ben Cao Jing" (Classic of Materia Medica) lists cinnabar as a superior herb, often used in medicinal treatments for calming the spirit, detoxifying, and alleviating insomnia and excessive dreaming.
Living in modern times, owning one or two cinnabar artifacts can also cultivate one's character, nourish the eyes, and soothe the heart.
**> Identification**
**All cinnabar products in our store are high-content cinnabar with a strong sense of weight. You can use the following methods for identification:**
>. Burning cinnabar will turn it black. (Please heat it through an intermediary. It is generally not recommended to directly burn finished products, as it is difficult to control the time and area. If it turns black after prolonged heating, it cannot be restored.)
>. Real cinnabar can draw orange-red lines on paper. (To avoid damaging the appearance of the finished product, please choose an inconspicuous area to draw the line, or use the complimentary bead for drawing.)
**> Maintenance**
1. Avoid Corrosion
Cinnabar is a mineral and is insoluble in water. However, frequent contact with chemicals such as soap and shower gel can corrode cinnabar.
2. Avoid Contact with Metal Objects
The mineral elements in cinnabar can absorb metal ions, causing irreversible dulling and blackening of the cinnabar.
3. Avoid High Temperatures
The mercuric sulfide in cinnabar's composition only releases at temperatures of 380 degrees Celsius. Therefore, as long as you avoid exposing cinnabar jewelry to high-temperature environments, you can wear it with peace of mind.
4. Avoid Collisions with Hard or Sharp Objects.
Cinnabar has high hardness but is brittle, so be careful to prevent drops.
5. How to Clean
If you find that your cinnabar is dirty, do not soak it in water, as this will alter its original luster! You can wipe it a few times with a slightly damp cotton cloth and let it rest for a while.
6. Oiling for Maintenance
Apply a layer of white tea oil or olive oil to the finished product, allowing the stone surface to absorb the oil, making it more crystal clear and bright. If you apply oil and then seal it in a brocade box, you can wrap it with a common plastic film to prevent the oil from staining the brocade box lining.
7. Frequent Handling
Frequently handle the cinnabar jewelry worn on your body with your hands, allowing the stone surface to acquire a very thin layer of oil. Over time, it will become more antique and elegant.
The actual product is more exquisite and beautiful than the photos.
