Material Selection The cowhide currently used by "Qie Xian Pai" is all top-grade, high-oil vegetable-tanned leather from Italy. As it is a natural material, and the tannery uses vegetable tanning methods that cause minimal damage to the leather, the surface may inevitably show minor "scars," "wrinkles," or "veins." We strive to avoid these during the cutting process or place such areas on less visible or non-stressed parts of the product. 2. Pure Hand Stitching We do not use sewing machines for our products; all items are meticulously hand-stitched. Before stitching, special diamond chisels are used to punch stitch holes in the leather, which is essential for achieving beautiful, wave-like stitch patterns, distinguishing them from machine stitching. Although this significantly increases production time, it is a crucial step where the leather artisan imbues the piece with soul and a gentle, tactile feel. 3. Hand-Burnished Edges Before finishing, the edges of the leather are burnished and sealed. This is done to ensure the edges appear smooth, rounded, and natural. "Qie Xian Pai" employs its own unique edge-finishing method. First, sandpaper is used to repeatedly smooth the sharp edges of the leather. Then, an edge-sealing liquid is applied to create a flat surface, repeated 2-3 times. Subsequently, a layer of edge-sealing wax is applied, followed by vigorous polishing with a burnishing tool until the edges achieve a smooth finish. 4. Hand-Dyed Leather For its hand-dyed products, "Qie Xian Pai" currently uses imported Fiebing's leather alcohol dyes from the United States. To achieve even and natural coloration, we begin by slightly dampening the leather surface with water. Then, using a sponge, the dye is applied repeatedly, layer by layer, from light to deep, until the desired color is achieved. After drying, a color-fixing agent is applied to enhance colorfastness. The surface is also treated with clean water to remove any surface dust and further even out the color. As the dyeing process is entirely by hand, subtle variations exist between the colors of each bag, making every piece unique.
