Born into a family of firefighters in Edo (now Tokyo), he became a student of the ukiyo-e master Utagawa Toyohiro in Edo in 1811. His series of 55 landscapes, The Fifty-three Stations of the Tōkaidō, from 1833–1834, established him as one of the most popular ukiyo-e artists of all time. Because there was so much demand for his figure landscapes, mass production reduced the quality of the landscapes. He created more than 5,000 paintings and made 10,000 copies from some of his woodcuts. His talent was first recognized by Western Impressionist and Post-Impressionist painters, and Hiroshige was greatly influenced by them. Utagawa Hiroshige's style is more friendly, elegant, and has the style of a small piece. At that time, he was a well-known painter known to every household in Japan. His works are mainly landscape paintings, which can be classified as the category of famous paintings in Japanese Ukiyo-e.
