1967 Hong Kong urban map hanging painting

Old maps can provide a new understanding of the ever-changing Hong Kong. Take a closer look at this 1967 "New and New Concise Map of Hong Kong and the New Territories" map. The former Hong Kong Kai Tak International Airport is still located on the bank of Kowloon Bay, and Hung Hom is still a shipyard. It stretches from the north of Boundary Street to the south of the Kowloon mountains. The area refers to the current Kwun Tong District, Wong Tai Sin District, Kowloon City District north of Boundary Street (i.e. Kowloon City, Kowloon Tong, Kai Tak, etc.) and Sham Shui Po District (but excluding the military land Stonecutters Island) and other areas. It was called "New Kowloon" at that time. In fact, in 1937, in order to increase urban land, the Hong Kong government developed the area between the north of Boundary Street and the south of the Kowloon Hills, which is now Kowloon City, Kowloon Tong, Sham Shui Po and Chi Kok (but Excluding Stonecutters Island), etc., it was named so to distinguish it from the "Old Kowloon" south of Boundary Street. After 1968, the government re-divided ten districts, and the distinction between old and new Kowloon gradually disappeared. After the 1980s, with the emergence of representative government, Hong Kong was divided into eighteen districts, gradually shaping the current community.
