Their **primary differences lie in color, texture, hardness, and processing methods**. **"Shuifei Sand" (Water-Milled Cinnabar)** **True red with a slightly orange hue. Its surface has a warm, matte sheen that will become brighter with wear, developing a natural patina.** The production method involves repeatedly grinding fine cinnabar particles into a paste, mixing with water, allowing it to settle, and then collecting the upper "turbid liquid." This is then left to settle again for purification (the "shuifei" or water-milling method). The resulting cinnabar mud at the bottom is air-dried and then formed using traditional pressing techniques. Faint mineral flashes can still be seen on its internal cross-section. **"Imperial Sand"** **Leans towards a true red with a brighter luster and higher hardness.** The production method involves a multi-step purification process from natural cinnabar ore, including **crushing, grinding, magnetic separation, water-milling, and high polishing**, followed by traditional pressing. Imperial Sand has almost no visible mineral flashes on the surface, though they are present internally. The surface undergoes a **high-polishing** process, giving it a metallic sheen, especially in sunlight, enhancing its metallic luster. **"Purple Gold Sand"** **Has a purplish-red color and is slightly less hard than Imperial Sand.** The production method involves multiple steps from natural cinnabar ore, including **crushing, grinding, and screening**, but it **does not undergo water-milling purification**. Therefore, the surface is not as fine and contains scattered, tiny mineral flashes, creating a "starry sky" effect. **"Crystal Sand"** **Has a purplish-red color and is translucent.** Large cinnabar particles are directly chipped from the cinnabar ore. "丹" is a pictographic character depicting the process of excavating a mine shaft and extracting minerals from within. Thus, the character "丹" is essentially the character "井" (jǐng - well) with a dot in the middle, signifying the extraction of something from a dug mine. This "something" is cinnabar. Because cinnabar is red, often a deep red, "朱" (zhū) also means red. Later, "丹砂" (dān shā - red sand) became known as "朱砂" (zhū shā - cinnabar). "丹" and "朱" describe the color, and "砂" describes the shape, referring to irregular granular minerals. Cinnabar's color is permanent. Chinese calligraphy and painting are known as "丹青" (dān qīng), where "丹" refers to cinnabar. It is an indispensable component of "eight treasures ink paste," the main ingredient of which is also cinnabar. Living in modern times, owning one or two cinnabar artifacts can also serve to cultivate one's character, nourish the eyes, and soothe the heart. **> Identification** **All cinnabar products in our store are high-content cinnabar with a substantial weight. You can use the following methods for identification:** >. Burning cinnabar will cause it to turn black. (Please heat through an intermediary object. It is generally not recommended to directly burn finished products as controlling the time and area is difficult. Overheating will cause blackening, which cannot be reversed.) >. Real cinnabar can draw orangey-red lines on paper. (To avoid damaging the aesthetic of the finished product, please choose an inconspicuous area to draw the line, or use a complimentary bead to test.) **> Care** **If cinnabar jewelry does not have metal or plant-based components (such as wood, bamboo, bodhi seeds, etc.), it can be exposed to water briefly, but prolonged immersion should be avoided as it may affect its luster.** **It is not recommended to get woven cord styles wet. Avoid Corrosion Cinnabar is a mineral and does not dissolve in water. However, frequent contact with chemicals such as soap and shower gel can cause corrosion. 2.
