We carefully select our pieces during the cutting process, avoiding these marks or placing them on less visible or non-stress areas of the product. 2. Hand-Stitched Seams Our products are not made with sewing machines; all stitching is done entirely by hand. Before sewing, special pricking irons are used to create stitch holes in the leather, which allows for the creation of beautiful, wave-like stitches, distinct from machine-sewn lines. While this significantly increases production time, it's a crucial step where the artisan imbues the leather goods with soul and a warm, tactile feel. 3. Hand-Burnished Edges Before finishing, the edges of the leather are meticulously burnished. This is done to ensure the edges appear smooth, rounded, and natural. "Tangent Linear" has its own unique edge-finishing method. First, sandpaper is used to repeatedly smooth the sharp edges. Then, an edge sealant is applied to create a flat surface, repeated 2-3 times. Finally, an edge wax is applied, and the edges are repeatedly polished with a burnishing tool until they achieve a smooth, lustrous finish. 4. Hand-Dyed Leather For our hand-dyed products, "Tangent Linear" currently uses imported Fiebing's leather alcohol dyes from the USA. To achieve a uniform and natural color, we begin by slightly dampening the leather surface. Then, using a sponge, we apply the dye layer by layer, gradually building from light to deep tones until the desired color is achieved. Once dry, a fixative is applied to enhance colorfastness. We also apply water to the leather surface to remove any dust and further even out the color. As each piece is hand-dyed, there are subtle variations in color between individual bags, making each one unique.
