A base thread is stretched, and then other threads are woven or knotted to create patterns. The embroidery is stiffened with adhesive, and once the embroidered portion is detached from the fabric, the Ñandutí piece is complete. The texture is quite firm and holds its shape well, while retaining the softness of the thread material.
