It will be removed once sold. 🚨🚨🚨 Euphorbia lactea, belonging to the Euphorbiaceae family and Euphorbia genus, scientifically known as *Euphorbia lactea*, is also called Variegated Euphorbia, White Ghost Euphorbia, or Imperial Cactus. Its English name is "White Ghost." While local common names vary across regions, the scientific name is the most reliable way to understand a plant's origin and lineage. Native to India and Sri Lanka, these plants can grow over 2 meters tall with numerous branches, each about 3-4 cm in diameter and featuring 3-4 prominent ridges. The skin is a mix of white and deep green, with brown thorns approximately 0.5 cm long. The stem tips bear small white leaves, with new growth more prone to developing leaves. When flowering, it occurs at the tips of the branches, producing small yellow flowers. Euphorbia lactea is a "horticultural cultivar." What does that mean? In earlier times, when agriculture was paramount, cultivation focused on producing edible crops for sustenance. Horticulture, a branch of agriculture, is the most engaging aspect, with "horti-" referring to skill and "culture" to cultivation. However, with a little caution, it's generally not a major concern. If you accidentally come into contact with the white sap from a plant wound, it can cause skin irritation. Rinse the area immediately. This typically happens when pruning branches or preparing for cuttings, and the sap splashes. It's advisable to take precautions before engaging in such activities. Speaking of toxicity, is it truly that problematic? Not necessarily. Some people utilize the toxic sap, extracting it to create natural pesticides that effectively control disease-carrying snails – a form of natural pest control! | Caring for Euphorbiaceae | * Euphorbiaceae plants are not overly demanding regarding soil but thrive best in fertile, well-draining sandy soil. For potted plants, repotting approximately every two years is recommended. * They prefer environments with abundant sunlight and good air circulation, but may require some shade during peak midday sun in summer. They can tolerate full or partial sun. Even if placed indoors with insufficient light, their robust vitality allows them to survive, though they may become leggy and less aesthetically pleasing. For healthy and beautiful growth, placing them in a sunny spot is advised. * How to control watering? For outdoor plants with normal photosynthesis, water thoroughly until it drains from the bottom holes, and water again when the soil is dry. Adjust watering frequency based on the ventilation of the environment. The principle is to "water only when dry, and water thoroughly when you do." After watering, avoid waterlogging the soil. In summer, water about once a week, and in winter, every 10-14 days. * The optimal growing temperature is 24-30°C. They cannot tolerate low temperatures. However, in Taiwan, you needn't worry excessively about this temperature, as periods below 15°C typically do not exceed a month annually.
