Onion Peterman: Tsuen Wan Market - Illustrated Book

The Mills invites local artist Onion Peterman to create a series of works, presenting the local character of the Tsuen Wan Market and Cooked Food Centre. Onion Peterman is one of Hong Kong's few screen-printing artists, adept at capturing rich cultural facets through color. The Tsuen Wan Market and Cooked Food Centre is one of the earliest public facilities developed in the district, established to meet the needs of a rapidly growing population. The market itself, with its distinct three-story structure and semi-open platform design, has retained much of its original architectural and spatial character since its opening, making it one of Hong Kong's few still-operating traditional public markets. Onion Peterman's vibrant and colorful style documents the people and scenes of the Tsuen Wan Market, offering a visual journey through the market. The strong sense of community in the Tsuen Wan Market is not only visible and edible, but also something you can take home. Taking the Tsuen Wan Market and Cooked Food Centre as inspiration, Onion Peterman personally designed an illustrated book for this exhibition. The artwork captures the market's spatial layout and its diverse human landscapes, allowing viewers to hold the market's architecture and scenery in their hands, experiencing and savoring the everyday.
