🌸 The Epitome of Japanese Ceramics
The Hometown of Maneki-neko – Seto Ware
✨ Seto ware is a collective term for ceramics produced in and around Seto City, Aichi Prefecture. Originating in the Kamakura period, it is one of Japan's Six Ancient Kilns, boasting a 1300-year history. In 1977, Seto ware was designated a Japanese Traditional Craft by the Japanese government, and in 2017, it was listed as "Japan Heritage." It is also the birthplace of glazed pottery and ceramic Maneki-neko (beckoning cats), earning it the moniker "Hometown of Maneki-neko." In Japanese, "Setomono" is practically synonymous with ceramics, highlighting its widespread recognition and representative status.
🐱 The legend of the Maneki-neko is said to have originated in Japan's Edo period. For a long time, it has been revered as a symbol of good fortune and prosperity, believed to bring business success, happiness to the home, and a steady stream of customers.
This piece is meticulously hand-painted by artisans. The entire body of the cat is first adorned with a rich gold finish, followed by intricate details in colors such as red, green, silver, and orange. The eyes are accented with rhinestones, creating a highly detailed, vibrant, and eye-catching piece. A Maneki-neko with its right paw raised is said to invite good luck and fortune, while this golden Maneki-neko symbolizes flourishing financial luck – a true beckoning of prosperity.
