Each leaf is unique, tied with real cotton string. This wrapping style is inspired by real zongzi. The cotton string is coated with protective varnish, giving it a slightly firm texture that does not detract from the visual appeal. Handle with care to avoid forceful pulling. The zongzi is fully assembled; do not attempt to disassemble to prevent damage. (The interior is made of a different type of clay.) These are challenging to create, with a high failure rate and very long drying times. Once sold out, they will be re-added to the production schedule.
