Collection description
Ma Yuan, a native of Hezhong, later moved to Qiantang. During the Guangzong and Ningzong dynasties of the Southern Song Dynasty (1190 – 1224 AD), he worked for the Painting Academy and was named Qinshan. My grandfather, brother and son have all been named after their paintings for generations. When painting landscapes, Lin'an scenery can be used as the theme. The focus of the scene is offset to one corner of the frame, so the composition is known as "horse corner". On a clear spring day in the south of the Yangtze River, a scholar in white robes and a lacquer gauze cage crown twirled his beard and chanted leisurely. His wide sleeves touched the wild flowers and frightened a pair of orioles on the tree. A boy holding a qin accompanied him, as if he was looking for something to say, or as if he was going to an appointment to visit friends. The artistic conception created by the actions of the characters in this painting is just like what Ningzong of the Song Dynasty wrote in the poem on the painting: "The wild flowers on the sleeves often dance by themselves; the birds can't sing when they avoid people." However, it also reminds people that this scene was written by Cheng Yi of the Song Dynasty, "A poem written by chance on a spring day." ": "The clouds are clear and the wind is gentle, it's almost noon; the flowers and willows are crossing the front river." Transformed. Through the interpretation of poetry and text, the painting can more clearly resonate with the viewer. This is an example. Painters of the Song Dynasty often signed their signatures in the gaps between rocks and tree roots, out of sight. This piece is signed in the lower left corner of the page. On the left side of the painting, willow trees intersect, with a straight branch rising horizontally and vertically in front, with a hanging thread hanging from it. The branches are long and smooth, which is a characteristic of the shape of the so-called "horse dragging a branch far away". Ma Yuan's brush strokes are thick and thick, which can be seen in the outlines of willow trunks and rocks. He also paints figures and clothing patterns. The strokes are heavy, like the head of a nail, and the tip of the brush is closed, like the tail of a rat. However, the strokes are slightly shaky and highly variable.
