Autumn and winter are perhaps everyone's favorite seasons (at least, they're my favorite XD), allowing for cozy jackets, hats, and scarves. Scarves are definitely my most beloved accessory for fall and winter. Even with a closet full, I find myself buying new ones every year! Since discovering the world of vintage, beyond bags and small accessories, I've also kept an eye out for scarves. This is because vintage styles tend to be more timeless, and their prices are, regardless, more affordable than modern pieces... Unfortunately, finding a vintage scarf that is both desirable and in excellent condition is significantly harder than finding a bag! After all, textiles are more delicate than leather and harder to maintain in pristine condition. Therefore, the vintage scarves I manage to acquire each year are few and far between... So, if you're looking for a vintage scarf, seize the opportunity when you see one, as it's highly unlikely you'll find the same style or color again. ⚐⚑˒˒ This is a pure wool scarf/shawl made in Japan. The wool is soft and smooth, never scratchy, and features the iconic Triomphe motif. It's double-sided with contrasting colors: pale gray x light gray, making both sides usable! The cool-toned palette is striking; I've never seen such a soft shade of gray before! The entire piece is adorned with the full Triomphe pattern. Despite being a pre-owned item, its condition is excellent, with a lightweight feel and no obvious flaws. There are no signs of snagging, loose threads, or discoloration, nor is there any pilling. The original tags and care labels are still attached. As you know, branded scarves are generally not inexpensive, and simple designs like this, especially in such a unique color, are no longer produced by CELINE. Most pre-owned items from the past were✦ handmade, imbued with the warmth of craftsmanship before the prevalence of machinery. The artisanal skill of major brands far surpasses that of machines, with every step meticulously perfected! However, today, most processes are automated with machinery and then assembled by hand; machine production inherently lacks the same level of detail. The most direct comparison can be seen by looking at the "monogram" patterns of recent brand reissues versus vintage pieces from earlier decades; the level of detail in the monogram alone is vastly different. If you appreciate monograms, seek out pre-owned items! Truly. In terms of style, vintage pieces from earlier eras tend to be✦ simple, timeless, and enduring. Many current designs are actually inspired by or directly replicate older styles. Yet, new releases are priced higher than their vintage counterparts. Furthermore, new designs are typically based on older models with added embellishments or modifications. The final designs often become more complex than their predecessors. I believe as one grows older, the understanding that simplicity endures becomes clearer!! The quality of raw materials in vintage pieces is demonstrably superior to newer items. Anyone familiar with✦ leather can attest to this; the materials used in new collections are often of a lower grade than vintage ones. This is mainly because the cost and availability of high-quality raw materials are now prohibitive, and brands in the past had exceptionally high standards for their finished products. The difference between new and old is most easily observed in the✦ hardware. The hardware on many new pieces oxidizes or discolors after just a year or two of use, whereas vintage pieces typically do not. This is due to the premium materials and meticulous craftsmanship. Earlier eras often featured hardware plated with real K gold! This is why vintage bags produced as far back as the 60s and 70s still boast gleaming hardware today! Among the brands I am familiar with, none of the new releases currently use K gold for their hardware. Many people consider vintage bags a unique form of investment; they rarely depreciate and often appreciate in value. This is because the number of pre-owned bags in good condition is steadily decreasing, making each one more scarce. Consequently, their value only increases. Moreover, certain brands periodically increase their prices, and each increase influences the market value of pre-owned items. With the recent trend of Japanese and Korean celebrities favoring vintage pieces, the price of a style can skyrocket after being seen on a celebrity. Similarly, if a brand releases its own redesigned reissue, the price of the same or similar styles can increase dramatically! Therefore, vintage pieces truly offer early enjoyment for a better price; buying later means paying more (this isn't an advertising slogan... it's a truth in the vintage world...). This is based on personal experience; I regret not entering the vintage world sooner for many collections, as I can no longer find them, or if I do, the price is astronomical. Apply a small amount to genuine leather for cleaning and to enhance its suppleness. It's not necessary to apply it after every use; occasional care is sufficient. The leather on pre-owned bags is inherently of excellent quality. With careful use and proper storage, it can easily last for another decade or more, perhaps even to be passed down to a daughter!
