They thrive in bright, dry conditions, appreciate significant temperature differences, and tolerate drought and partial shade. Unlike typical cacti, they lack sharp spines, possessing only soft, white, star-like fuzz on their areoles. Many enthusiasts are drawn to their petite size and adorable appearance, making them a compelling choice. "Dou," also known as "Star Cactus," is spineless, with white star-like fuzz on its areoles. It's a large group with many varieties, including Super Dou, Miracle Dou, Garden Dou, Variegated Dou, and more (each named based on variations in star spots, tubercules, and ribs). Please refer below. | Watering | Dou is drought-tolerant and prefers dry conditions. Follow the principle of "water sparingly, water thoroughly." During the growing season, water adequately, ensuring no waterlogging in the pot. In winter, keep the soil dry. Once temperatures rise, gradually resume normal watering. Avoid splashing soil onto the fuzz when watering to maintain its aesthetic appeal. | Sunlight | Dou is a summer-growing plant that requires abundant sunlight. Sufficient light helps Dou maintain its plump shape, ensures healthy photosynthesis, and promotes flowering during the right season. Therefore, ample sunlight is paramount. However, provide some shade during intense summer sun to prevent sunburn. Less sunlight means less watering; insufficient light can lead to etiolation, affecting its appearance. When winter temperatures drop below 7°C (45°F), provide insulation, perhaps by moving the Dou indoors. | Important Notes | Dou is not suited for prolonged rain. If you grow your Dou on a balcony and experience consecutive heavy downpours, we recommend moving the plant to a sheltered area to minimize the risk of damage.
