Also known as Tiger's Eye, this gemstone exhibits a captivating cat's-eye effect. It typically appears in yellow-brown hues, featuring silky, light-reflecting striations within. Tiger's Eye is a variety of quartz, formed through the pseudomorphic replacement of crocidolite fibers by silica. A blue variant, resulting from an incomplete silicification process, is called Hawk's Eye. It usually displays alternating black and yellow tones, resembling the stripes of a tiger, and sometimes blue, yellow, and black hues, referred to as blue cat's eye stone, purified by secret matrix energy. Cat's eye stones are often called "noble gemstones."
Alongside alexandrite, it is considered one of the world's five most precious and high-grade gemstones. Cat's eye stones are primarily found in pneumatolytic hydrothermal deposits and pegmatite veins. Tiger's Eye is a variety of crocidolite. The quartz fibers in Tiger's Eye are shorter and less regularly oriented than in crocidolite, arranged randomly like stripes. The world's largest deposits of Tiger's Eye and crocidolite are located in the Transvaal Province of South Africa, with other sources including Brazil and Henan, China. Its value is also determined by its quality; specimens with flawless surfaces, clear eye-lines, and central eye-lines are generally considered top-grade.
Derong Collection Encyclopedia - The Issue of Dyed and Baked Tiger's Eye:
Tiger's Eye has its secrets, with baked color treatments being common. For instance, Tiger's Eye naturally occurs in only two colors: yellow and blue. What about red or green Tiger's Eye? These are created by heat-treating yellow Tiger's Eye. There are treatments involving high-temperature coloring and natural high-temperature color changes. Yellow Tiger's Eye is abundant and less prone to artificial coloring. Lastly, blue Tiger's Eye, in the absence of light, typically appears dark, with its blue striations barely visible. However, when exposed to light, it reveals a sky blue color, which is not its natural hue. All these color alteration methods can be tested by soaking in alcohol to determine authenticity.
