Green Sea Turtles inhabit tropical and subtropical waters, and Taiwan is one of their important habitats. Their main nesting grounds are in Penghu, Lanyu, Xiaoliuqiu, and Taiping Island in the Nansha Islands. They forage in the waters surrounding Taiwan, such as Xiaoliuqiu, the Hengchun Peninsula, Green Island, and Penghu. Out of the seven species of sea turtles existing globally, six are listed on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, facing the threat of extinction. The Green Sea Turtle is one of them. Beyond the impacts of climate change, threats to Green Sea Turtles include human hunting, ship strikes, marine debris, development of nesting habitats, and environmental pollution.
