After returning from abroad, many head straight to their favorite tea shops for a cup of bubble tea that's both incredibly comforting and distinctly homey. Interestingly, there's also a difference between large and small tapioca pearls. In the past, Southern Taiwan typically called it "Boba milk tea" (large pearls) and "Pearl milk tea" (small pearls), while Northern Taiwan uniformly referred to it as "Pearl milk tea" (requiring specification for large or small pearls).
