This trip to Kyoto was filled with wonderful people and experiences.
Beyond rediscovering the joy of living mindfully, I witnessed the ancient capital's deep respect for and innovative approach to traditional culture and craftsmanship. What first captured my heart were the coin purses, meticulously crafted by a kimono artisan. Mr. Nakamura, a man of gentle demeanor and grace, has retired from the world of kimono making, but continues to design coin purses using his beloved kimono fabrics.
◾️【Premium Kimono Tsumugi Series】
The artisan's dedication shines through in every detail and material choice. This piece features Kyoto's exquisite "Kanoko Shibori" tie-dye, named for its resemblance to the spots on a fawn ("kanoko"). The hand-dyeing process is intricate and refined, resulting in unique color patterns for each piece. Consequently, these items are rare and should be cherished as "once-in-a-lifetime" treasures.
Mr. Nakamura's coin purses stand apart from those made with synthetic fibers or cotton commonly found elsewhere. Even accessories deserve to be examined with the same discerning eye as fine jewelry. He emphasizes the importance of gentle use, noting that the material becomes even softer with time.
One can truly appreciate the quality of items favored by Kyoto residents, understanding their pride. We are grateful to the artisan for agreeing to create a special batch for us. To be honest, compared to the multitude of coin purses available, the initial price point might seem understated. At first, I was drawn by its appearance, not fully considering the premium kimono fabric or the meticulously crafted clasp. However, upon using it, I truly understood its value. With every opening and closing, I found myself admiring its beauty, growing more fond of it each day. Anyone fortunate enough to own one will recognize it as a work of art, inspiring a desire to collect more.
