This is a bracelet connecting African sourced agate & carnelian, light blue mix seed beads, old Chin silver & Orissa brass, and more.
The beads with semi-translucent white stripes are agate unearthed in Africa, dating back to around the 10th century.
Their beautiful shape showcases the natural striations unique to agate.
While they bear marks from age, these imperfections contribute to their wonderful character.
(Size of African sourced agate: 1.2cm width x 0.7cm diameter)
The orange beads are carnelian, also unearthed in Africa and from around the 10th century.
These also show signs of age.
The light blue and muted blue beads are old seed beads from India, each one irregular and having been worn for many years (around the 19th-20th century).
Though cleaned, their color is expected to deepen beautifully with continued wear.
The amber-colored beads near the clasp are antique White Heart beads. They are called White Heart because of their white core. Antique (19th-20th century) White Heart beads are becoming increasingly rare.
The three indigo blue beads next to the amber White Heart beads are antique Indian-Pacific beads.
The origin of Indian-Pacific beads is said to be as early as the 2nd century BC.
These particular beads were unearthed in Indonesia and remarkably date back to around the 10th century – over 1000 years old!
The plump, pot-shaped silver beads sandwiching the African sourced agate and carnelian are extremely rare old Chin silver. These are heirloom pieces from around the 18th-19th century, originating from Burma. Used by Chin women in necklaces and other adornments, they display unique wear and endearing marks.
Their substantial feel and presence are incomparable to modern silver (though some modern pieces are also striking...). These are antique beads whose value has been steadily increasing in recent years.
The golden beads, and the anchor-like charms next to the African sourced carnelian, are old Orissa brass. These are old and rare beads that have arrived from the Orissa region of India.
The small Karen silver beads are each individually stamped!
The thought of each one being hand-crafted is simply astounding.
The clasp is also made of Karen silver.
◇Karen Silver◇
This silver is crafted by a mountain ethnic group living in Thai Burma.
Each piece is handmade, and it is said to have a very high purity.
Connected by two waxed cords, they may feel slightly stiff at first but will become supple with wear.
