Material Selection The cowhide leather used by "Cutting Line" is all top-grade, full-grain vegetable-tanned leather sourced from Italy. As a natural material, and due to the minimal-damage vegetable tanning process employed by the tannery, the leather surface may inevitably bear minor "scars," "wrinkles," or "vein marks." We make every effort to avoid these during the cutting process, or we position them on less visible or non-stress-bearing areas of the product. 2. Hand-Stitched Construction Our products are crafted entirely by hand, without the use of sewing machines. Before stitching, special diamond chisels are used to punch precise holes in the leather, enabling the creation of beautiful, wave-like stitch lines – a key distinction from machine stitching. While this significantly extends production time, it is an essential step where the artisan imbues the leather goods with soul and a warm, tactile feel. 3. Hand-Burnished Edges The final step before a product is complete is the meticulous burnishing and finishing of the leather edges. To achieve smooth, rounded, and natural-looking edges, "Cutting Line" employs a unique finishing method. First, sandpaper is used to repeatedly smooth any sharp edges. Then, an edge sealant is applied to create a flat surface, a process repeated 2-3 times. Finally, an edge wax is applied, followed by vigorous burnishing with a polishing tool until the edges achieve a smooth finish. 4. Hand-Dyed Leather For our hand-dyed products, "Cutting Line" currently uses Fiebing's leather alcohol dyes imported from the United States. To ensure even and natural coloration, we begin by slightly dampening the leather surface. The dye is then applied repeatedly with a sponge, gradually building from light to dark until the desired hue is achieved. Once dry, a color-setting agent is applied to enhance colorfastness. Finally, the surface is treated with water to remove any dust and further even out the color. As each piece is hand-dyed, subtle variations exist between the colors of individual items, making every bag truly unique.
