This geta base is known as "Funagata" (boat shape) due to its resemblance to the hull of a boat. It's a toothless style, offering a feel similar to zori sandals. The surface of the base is finished with "Kaba-zaiku," a traditional craft from Akita. This is a luxurious item, made by thinly processing the bark of the wild cherry tree, polishing it to a sheen, and applying it to a paulownia wood base. The straps are tailored from "horsehair," a fabric woven from horse tail hair. Even skilled artisans can only weave about 10cm per hour.
