Temari, also known as Te-maru or Ke-jiku, is written as 【てまり】 in Japanese.
In the past, parents and grandparents would create them from disassembled old kimonos.
Through the long process of creation, the makers imbue their heartfelt wishes for the recipient's happiness.
Because the balls are round, they symbolize "all affairs resolving smoothly."
Additionally, as they are sewn with long threads, they also carry the meaning of "forming connections" or "finding good fortune in relationships"!
