Brass oxidizes and darkens more quickly with prolonged exposure to moisture. Elastic cords can also lose their elasticity over time with water exposure. However, clasps are more difficult to remove. In tests, wearing a clasp for 3 months without removal resulted in only slight darkening of the brass. Avoid scrubbing with brushes and cleaning agents during showers.
