Its leaves, resembling rabbit ears, give the plant its name. The leaves are typically grayish-green, grow opposite each other, and readily branch out. They are elongated and pointed towards the tip, densely covered with fine hairs on both the leaves and stems. New leaves emerge in a golden yellow hue, while older leaves take on a slightly yellowish-brown tint. | Growing Environment | Moon Rabbit Ear thrives in cool conditions, preferring dry, sun-drenched locations. While it can tolerate partial shade, it is susceptible to waterlogging and cannot withstand hot, humid weather. Prolonged exposure to dim environments will result in thinner stems, weakened vitality, duller leaf fuzz, and hinder the development of reddish-brown spots on the leaves, significantly impacting its aesthetic appeal. Like most succulents, Moon Rabbit Ear grows during the cooler seasons and enters dormancy during hot summers. Its active growing period is from September to June each year. | Sunlight | When grown in ample sunlight, Moon Rabbit Ear remains compact and sturdy, with densely packed leaves. Conversely, insufficient light causes the plant to become leggy, with elongated gaps between leaves, giving it a loose appearance. The stems also become fragile, and leaf colors fade. | Care | During its growth period, Moon Rabbit Ear requires soil that prevents waterlogging, maintaining a slightly moist condition. A mixture of peat moss and granular soil is recommended to maximize aeration. In winter, when the soil is dry, Moon Rabbit Ear can withstand temperatures around 2°C and should not be watered throughout the season. When temperatures exceed 35°C in summer, it enters dormancy and stops growing. During this period, avoid overwatering. In addition to ensuring good ventilation and providing shade, it should not be exposed to direct sunlight or rain. | Propagation | Similar to most succulents, Moon Rabbit Ear can be propagated through offsets or cuttings. Spring and autumn are ideal for cuttings. To propagate from cuttings, simply remove healthy stems, allow them to dry for a day or two, and then place them on the surface of moist soil. Maintaining a cool, ventilated environment for over 20 days will generally result in root and shoot development.
