About Wood Firing Wood firing is a traditional kiln method where temperatures exceed 1200 degrees Celsius. The pieces naturally acquire "fire marks" left by the direct flame, and ash from the burning wood settles on the surface, resulting in warm, rich colors and diverse textures that electric or gas kilns cannot replicate. Compared to regular electric and gas kilns, the entire wood-firing process, from loading the kiln, ignition, sealing, to cooling, takes approximately 8-10 days. Furthermore, factors such as the high kiln pressure, humidity, wood dryness, human control over stoking, and kiln placement can influence the success of the work, leading to a higher damage rate. Experienced wood-firing artisans meticulously consider airflow dynamics when arranging the kiln. They plan the placement of pieces based on their size, estimate the path of the flames, manage the stoking of wood and charcoal, and control the fire intensity.
