Pin Brooch: Coffee Time

Reminiscent of the charming cups from a beloved old donut shop's giveaway, I was always fond of their plump shapes. Keeping that nostalgic image in mind, I've crafted a batch just for you. About the creation process. Starting with a sketch, I shape the clay, allowing it to dry slightly before repeated refinements. Each batch, sized to fill the kiln evenly, takes about a month to create. Bisque firing lasts 7 hours, after which each piece is wiped with water and meticulously glazed before the final 12-hour firing. Some pieces receive a gold glaze treatment and return to the kiln for another 7 hours. Cooling requires patience, so after each firing, I wait about two days before removing them from the kiln. Finally, each brooch is individually inspected, and a pin is attached to those that meet my standards. Currently, the success rate is around 70%. This process is time-consuming and labor-intensive, but the result is a decorative brooch that combines the tactile feel of clay, the durability of ceramic, the sheen of glaze, and the sparkle of gold accents. I believe these are pieces meant to be cherished for a long time, remaining timeless.
