Old Dutch ironstone decorative plate made by Petrus Regout

Old Dutch ironstone decorative plate from the "Willow" series made by Petrus Regout. The "Blue Willow" design was developed by potters in the Caughley Pottery Works and was produced using the transferware process by the Spode pottery in the 1790’s. The design is based on The Green Willow, a Japanese fairy tale. Petrus Regout started the Sphinx ceramics factory in 1834 in Maastricht, and it later changed to Petrus Regout & Co. In 1899 the company's name was changed to De Sphinx, and it merged with Société Céramique in 1958. It became Royal Sphinx in 1960 and stayed operational until 2010. The debossed mark at the back of this plate was in use from 1836 to 1880. Considering its age, this plate is in relatively good condition with craquelure due to aging, small production flaws, and surface marks as well as glaze wear.
