My Twentieth Century: Memoirs of Li Oufan / Li Oufan

**Looking back on most of my life, I feel that I am a person of the twentieth century after all. For the 21st century, I have no expectations, I just feel that my 20th century is not yet over. This memoir is also a memo I wrote for myself in the twentieth century.** In the book, I reminisce about my growth process and long study experience, and especially link my teaching experience in six American universities, including Princeton, Chicago, and Buddha, with my study, which is called "study tour". I follow the pattern of "initiation novels", writing about my life experiences instead of enumerating academic achievements. In the end, I added a chapter "Emotional History" rashly, which can be regarded as my "Emotional Education". For me, the structure of memoir can be a little freer, like a film that has not yet been edited. I often invite a virtual questioner, like the "counterpoint" in the composition method, to ask me questions, question, and refute, forcing me to do self-reflection. Even though some chapters use monologues, I still have a silent interlocutor in mind. The second part of this book is my conversation with Zhang Lijun, who will further lead me to reflect on my own learning process and reading experience. In this 21st century "globally networked" world, it is almost impossible to rediscover the meaning of personal life in the 20th century and do quiet reflection.
