【Sea People Picks】Shopping Design Summer Drifting Project

▌Magazine Introduction One thing foreign friends often comment on is how "enviously close the distance is between Taiwan's cities and the sea." Yet, we often overlook this proximity and forget the ocean's allure. Surrounded by water, we often know little about the vast, interconnected sea before us. "The biggest problem with the ocean is that people are completely blind to it. We've lost half the world's coral in the past 30 years." In "Chasing Coral" (2017), the film crew revealed the widespread disappearance and death of coral due to global warming, highlighting the urgent plight of marine ecosystems and urging us to not only know and enjoy the ocean but also to begin treating it with care. This issue of "Shopping Design" starts with our first "sea people," gathering stories of "The Sea and Us" across Taiwan. From the main island to Little Liuqiu, Orchid Island, and Matsu, we showcase a stylish life in symbiosis with the sea. Whether it's quietly gazing at the ocean, gliding across its surface, diving into its depths, or simply relaxing by the shore, we explore the beauty of the sea through various ways of connecting with it, understanding our own smallness, and cultivating a unique relationship with the ocean. Venturing to islands, diving into the sea – it all depends on the weather and fate. Visiting a coast you missed one summer might just be your "Drifting Project" for this year. The sea is always there; go forth and claim your destiny, step towards a wider horizon.
