Material: 100% Cotton Dimensions: 49 cm x 37 cm x 14 cm (Depth) Fabric Density: 310 g/m2 Care Instructions: Wash with similar colored garments; do not iron on the print; wash and iron inside out. - About the Artist / Yoshitomo Nara Born on December 5, 1959, Japanese artist Yoshitomo Nara is globally renowned for his distinctive, cartoon-like paintings of melancholic children and animals. After earning his Bachelor and Master of Fine Arts degrees from the Aichi University of the Arts, he pursued further studies at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf in the late 1980s, drawing inspiration from both Eastern and Western cultures throughout his career. Nara's childhood, during Japan's post-war era, coincided with increasing exposure to Western pop culture, including comic books, Disney animations, and popular music. These elements are often cited as early influences on his work. While he has consistently stated that his art is not directly inspired by Japanese manga, the unique, wide-eyed figures in his paintings frequently lead art critics to draw comparisons. Conversely, he asserts that by pairing innocent children with cynical expressions or incongruous objects (such as sharp knives), his work ascends to a different spiritual plane, prompting reflection on significant religious and philosophical themes. Yoshitomo Nara commands a dedicated following and has held numerous solo exhibitions worldwide. A major retrospective tour from 2003 to 2005 showcased his work across various locations.
