Material Selection The cowhide currently used by "Cut Line School" is all A-grade, high-oil vegetable-tanned leather from Italy. As it is a natural material, and the tannery uses vegetable tanning methods that cause minimal damage to the leather, the surface inevitably has a few "scars," "wrinkles," and "veins." We do our best to avoid these when cutting the leather, or we place these parts on areas of the product that are less visible or not load-bearing. 2. Pure Hand Stitching We do not use sewing machines to create our products; all items are meticulously hand-stitched. Before stitching, special diamond chisels are used to punch stitch holes in the leather, which is how we achieve the beautiful wave-like stitch effect, a distinct difference from machine stitching. Although this significantly increases production time, it is a crucial step where the leather artisan imbues the piece with soul and a warm, tactile feel. 3. Hand-Burnished Edges Before a piece is finished, the edges are burnished and sealed. This is to ensure the edges appear smooth, rounded, and natural. "Cut Line School" has its own unique edge-finishing method. First, sandpaper is used to repeatedly smooth the sharp edges of the leather. Then, a layer of edge finish is applied to make the edges appear even. This process is repeated 2-3 times, followed by a layer of edge wax. Finally, a burnishing tool is used to rub the edges repeatedly until they achieve a smooth, polished look. 4. Hand-Dyed Leather For its hand-dyed products, "Cut Line School" currently uses imported Fiebing's leather alcohol dyes from the United States. To achieve even and natural coloration, we first dampen the leather surface with water. Then, using a sponge, we apply the dye layer by layer, from light to dark, until we reach the desired hue. After drying, a color sealant is applied to enhance colorfastness. We also apply water to the leather surface to remove any surface dust and further even out the color. Because the dyeing is purely handmade, there are subtle variations in color between each bag, making every piece unique.
