**Artist Biography: Hsieh Chung-Jen**
Born in 1973 in Fangyuan Township, Changhua County.
Began studying jade carving in Taipei in 1988.
Pursued advertising design studies in vocational school in 1993, integrating design concepts into his work.
Established his own studio in 1994.
Received an honorable mention in the craft category at the 14th Nan Ying Arts Exhibition in 2000 for his work "Poised for Action."
Participated in a jade and stone joint exhibition at the Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall in August.
Invited to participate in the Hualien International Arts Festival in 2001, featuring live carving in the local creation area.
Selected for the "Dream of Craftsmanship" award at the 10th Taiwan Craft Design Competition in 2002. Exhibited with jade and stone artists at the Hsinchu County Cultural Affairs Bureau in January.
Participated in the "Flowers and Trees Carnival" jade and stone exhibition in Changhua County in May.
Invited to exhibit at the "Grand View of Stones" exhibition, co-organized by the Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Cultural Foundation and Hualien County Cultural Affairs Bureau, in department stores across northern, central, and southern Taiwan from October to December.
Invited by the National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute to exhibit works such as "Lotus Ecological Charm" at the Presidential Office's "Taitung Local Craft Exhibition" in 2003.
Featured in the National Education Radio's "Arts and Culture Corridor - Hsieh Chung-Jen Jade Stone Carving Exhibition" from March to June 2004.
Received an honorable mention at the 12th Taiwan Craft Design Competition's "Dream of Craftsmanship."
Held a solo exhibition at the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall from October 2004 to January 2005.
Invited by the National Taiwan Museum to exhibit his work "Taiwanese Snacks - Braised Pork Rice" in 2005.
Participated in the "Sherlock Holmes: A Thousand Faces Exhibition" with the National Museum of the Czech Republic through an exchange program from June to September.
Launched the "Yu Ning Shi" brand and opened a counter in department stores.
Exhibited at the Pacific Sogo Department Store's "Craftsmanship Masters" exhibition in mid-December.
Invited to participate in the "Craftsmanship at Your Fingertips - Applied Crafts for Daily Life Exhibition" organized by the National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute at the Executive Yuan Gallery in 2007.
His work "Japanese-style Grilled Sushi" was selected for the "Taiwan Craft Competition" at the National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute in 2008.
In 2012, his work "Half-Thought" received an honorable mention in the Traditional Craftsmanship category at the "Taiwan Craft Competition," organized by the Ministry of Culture and the National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute. His work "Tranquil Mountain and Water" won an honorable mention in the craft category at the 21st Tainan "Nan Ying Award."
Participated in the "Cross-Strait Jade Carving Masters Exchange Exhibition" at the Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall in 2013, showcasing his work in the Taiwanese Jade Master's area.
Invited by the National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Center to exhibit at the Presidential Office Gallery in 2016 as part of the "Gathering Around the Stove - Sustainable Craft Exhibition," displaying his works "Japanese-style Grilled Sushi," "Handmade Mochi," and "Leaping Moment."
His work "Lingering Lotus in Spring" received an honorable mention at the Taoyuan Arts Exhibition in 2017.
Held a solo exhibition, "Hsieh Chung-Jen Jade Carving 30 Years: The Continuation of Culture," at the Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall in 2018.
Invited by the National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Center to exhibit his work "Auspicious Dragon Offering Blessings" at the Presidential Office Gallery's "Feast · Happiness" exhibition from January to June 2019.
Participated in the "Joyful Heart, Shining Art - Taiwan Craft Development Association Boutique Exhibition," held concurrently at the Hsinchu County Cultural Affairs Bureau (July 29 - August 16, 2020) and the Taipei Dangdai Contemporary Craft Design Branch of the National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute (October 6, 2020 - February 28, 2021).
His work "Japanese-style Grilled Sushi" was exhibited at the "Creative Regeneration Green Craft" exhibition organized by the National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute from October to November 2021.
His work "Handmade Mochi" was selected for the 2021 Taiwan Craft Competition and toured at the Taipei Dangdai Contemporary Craft Design Branch of the National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute, as well as at Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Xinyi Store, Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Tainan Ximen Store, and Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Taichung Store.
