Bastet The Feline Guardian of the Home

Originally depicted as a lion-headed war goddess, she gradually evolved into the cat goddess known today. During the Ptolemaic period under Greek rule, she was further transformed into a deity representing the moon. Now commonly portrayed with the head of a cat and the body of a woman, Bastet is one of the protective goddesses of ancient Egypt. It is also said that her name is linked to the ointment jars (bas-jars) used by Egyptians, earning her the title "Protector of Perfumes." As Egyptians believed cats possessed divine power to guard the home, she symbolizes domestic protection, peace, and the warding off of diseases and evil spirits.
