**A New Concept for 108-Bead Bracelets**
The traditional notion of 108-bead bracelets being solely for Buddhist practitioners is rather outdated:p.
While 108-bead bracelets indeed originate from Buddhist scriptures and, due to their length, are typically worn wrapped around the wrist multiple times or as a necklace, their materiality, design, and decorative purposes have evolved with the times. They are now more fashionable, versatile, and suitable for layering. Designers must adapt to users' preferences to create truly unique, personalized pieces.
Furthermore, **108 has never been exclusive to Buddhists. Even non-Buddhists can embrace the auspicious meaning of 108 and its potential for layered styling**.
We often share with our clients that a 108-bead bracelet is an external object. Whether we are Buddhist or not, chanting or prayer is primarily an inner practice. It's about **not being bound or hindered by material possessions**, and certainly not being fixated on the bracelet's material, the number of beads, how it's held, or whether it's worn on the left or right hand.
The ideal way to use prayer beads is for convenience and ease, just as the "Diamond Sutra" states: "All conditioned phenomena are like dreams, illusions, bubbles, and shadows; like dew drops and flashes of lightning; thus they should be contemplated." Bracelets and prayer beads are also phenomena, so one should not be overly concerned with them when using them; **comfort is paramount**.
**The Origin of 108 Prayer Beads**
108 prayer beads represent 108 kinds of afflictions, derived from the six senses (eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body, and mind), each experiencing pleasure, pain, and indifference, combined with good, bad, and neutral aspects within each sense, totaling 18. This is further multiplied by three temporal phases—past, present, and future—resulting in 108.
The concept of 108 afflictions signifies that sentient beings are subject to 108 types of worldly troubles, which can lead to various negative actions. Therefore, the practice aims to eradicate these 108 afflictions to achieve a state of tranquility for body and mind. Wearing prayer beads serves as a constant reminder to embody the compassion of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, maintaining a calm and composed state of mind in any situation.
In Tibetan, prayer beads are called "trangwa," meaning remembrance, contemplation, or constant recollection. It also signifies continuity, representing the perpetual remembrance of gurus, yidams, dakinis, and dharma protectors, as well as their continuous compassion and bestowing of siddhis and wisdom upon oneself.
**Malachite**
Malachite (Malachite) has a history stretching far back in human civilization. Ancient Romans believed it possessed divine power and dedicated it to Juno, the goddess often depicted with a peacock, from which the stone derives its name.
The green of malachite is renowned as the most pure and vibrant shade, uniquely characterized by its striking bands of varying intensity, lending it an elegant yet striking appearance.
Malachite is considered a healing gemstone, believed to help purify and activate the body's chakras, particularly the heart and throat chakras.
Historically, malachite has been revered for its protective energy, safeguarding individuals from misfortune, promoting business success, and fostering love, peace, and stability.
**Clear Quartz**
Clear Quartz (Crystal) is valued for its clarity and transparency, formed over millions of years under extreme heat and pressure.
Legend has it that Hercules, the bravest hero in Greek mythology, always wielded a shining clear quartz shield in battle. The shield illuminated the heavens with brilliance, imbuing Hercules with the heroic aura of a triumphant king, leading Zeus to crown him King of Courage.
Thus, clear quartz is known as the King of Crystals, symbolizing strength, courage, wisdom, and purification.
**Six-Syllable Mantra**
The Six-Syllable Mantra (Om Mani Padme Hum) originates from Sanskrit and consists of six Tibetan syllables: Om Mani Padme Hum (Sanskrit: Oṃ Maṇi Padme Hūṃ; Tibetan: ཨོཾ་མ་ཎི་པདྨེ་ཧཱུྃ). It is one of the most frequently recited mantras in Buddhism.
This mantra contains the immeasurable blessings and compassion of all Buddhas. It is the vocal manifestation of their compassion and wisdom, holding profound and infinite significance, embodying the universe's great power, wisdom, and compassion. Reciting it regularly brings incredible merits and benefits.
Om Mani Padme Hum: Each syllable carries a distinct meaning:
**Om (Oṃ) - Dispels arrogance; purifies ego-clinging**.
Represents the Buddha family's heart, symbolizing the white wisdom light of equality, eradicating ego-clinging and pride. It also signifies the Buddha's heart, representing the Trikaya (Dharma, Sambhoga, and Nirmana bodies), the wisdom body, speech, and mind of all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas.
**Ma (Ma) - Dispels jealousy; purifies envy**.
Represents the green wisdom light, removing envy within the Asura realm and alleviating the suffering of conflict among non-humans.
**Ni (ṇi) - Dispels greed; purifies ignorance**.
Represents the yellow self-originating wisdom light, alleviating the suffering of birth, aging, sickness, and death in the human realm, and purifying ignorance and greed within the human realm.
**Pad (Pad) - Dispels foolishness; purifies delusion**.
Represents the blue wisdom light of the nature of phenomena, capable of removing the suffering of labor and servitude for animals and dispelling foolishness.
**Me (me) - Dispels stinginess; purifies avarice**.
Represents the red wisdom light of subtle observation, relieving the suffering of hunger and thirst for hungry ghosts and purifying avarice in the realm of hungry ghosts.
**Hum (Hūṃ) - Dispels anger; purifies hatred**.
Represents the Vajra family's heart, symbolizing the black-blue mirror-like wisdom light, which can alleviate the suffering of extreme heat and cold in the hell realms and dispel hatred.
Regular recitation of the Six-Syllable Mantra, Om Mani Padme Hum, can eliminate the six afflictions of greed, anger, ignorance, arrogance, jealousy, and stinginess, transcend the cycle of reincarnation, and lead to rebirth in the Pure Land and the attainment of enlightenment.
**Pixiu**
Pixiu (ㄆㄧˊ ㄒㄧㄡ) is a mythical auspicious creature from Chinese legend, resembling a lion with a dragon's head, a horse's body, and a unicorn's hooves. It is believed to transform misfortune into good fortune, bringing joy and luck.
From ancient times to the present, royalty and commoners alike have cherished collecting and wearing Pixiu, believing it brings good fortune, wards off evil spirits, attracts wealth, protects the home, mitigates the effects of Tai Sui (the Grand Duke Jupiter), and promotes romantic relationships.
In ancient times, the Pixiu was depicted as strong and imposing, embodying fierce majesty. In modern interpretations, however, many Pixiu are rendered with rounded, endearing features, making them even more popular among young people for collection and adornment.

**◈ About Care and Collection**
1. Natural gemstones possess natural luster and unique textures (such as tiny black spots, internal lines, ice cracks, cloudiness, mineral inclusions, and asymmetry). By wearing them frequently, you will observe subtle color changes that often make them appear more translucent and captivating—this is also the best method of care.
For natural organic gemstones (like coral and amber), which have low hardness and are sensitive to acids and alkalis, avoid using detergents when cleaning. Rinse with clean water and wipe with a soft cloth. You may also use a soft brush lightly dipped in a small amount of mineral oil (such as baby oil) for gentle care.
2. Metal jewelry has a long lifespan. Avoid external damage or exposure to strong acids and alkalis that may cause fading.
3. Fabric components (ribbons, cotton, gauze) are soft and comfortable to the touch and have a long lifespan. Avoid high temperatures, external damage, or exposure to strong acids and alkalis that may cause fading.
4. For any jewelry, when soiled, gently wipe with a soft cloth dampened with water, or use an appropriate amount of neutral detergent for suitable materials. Ensure thorough drying after washing.
5. When not wearing your jewelry, store it properly in a package to minimize air exposure, slow down oxidation and discoloration, and avoid overlapping or heavy pressure.
