My husband and I create all our works together, which is why you'll find our marks as "Ping" or "Fan," and sometimes the "Xiaopingfan Pottery Studio" seal. What is the wood-firing process?** We blend American, Japanese, and Miaoli clays in various proportions. The creation process involves meticulous hand-building (not on a pottery wheel) to gradually form the piece. After initial shaping, the body's lines are refined, and the piece is polished to complete the greenware. Once in the kiln, the wood firing process using natural longan and acacia wood lasts for five days and four nights without interruption. Temperatures reach over 1200 degrees Celsius. During this time, natural ash deposits adhere to the works, creating a unique ash glaze. Simultaneously, the kiln's flames create dynamic patterns across the pieces, resulting in beautiful orange-red or blue-purple flame marks. After five days and four nights of ash and flame interaction, a week of slow cooling is required before a piece can achieve its beautiful form! What should guests be aware of?** Product colors may vary slightly due to photographic lighting. As our works are entirely handmade, they will bear the subtle textures of the making process. Slight variations may also occur during the firing process, such as uneven rims or minor production scratches – these are normal characteristics and do not affect usability.
