Material Selection The cowhide used by "Cut Line" is all top-grade, high-oil vegetable-tanned leather from Italy. As a natural material, and due to the leather factory's use of vegetable tanning methods that minimize damage to the leather's texture, it's inevitable that the surface may have minor "scars," "wrinkles," or "vein marks." We do our best to avoid these during the cutting process or place them on less visible or non-load-bearing parts of the product. 2. Hand-Stitched Seams Our products are not made with sewing machines; all items are meticulously hand-stitched. Before stitching, special pricking irons are used to create precise holes in the leather, ensuring a beautiful, wavy stitch pattern that distinguishes our work from machine-sewn goods. While this significantly increases production time, it's a crucial step where the leather artisan imbues the piece with soul and a warm, tactile feel. 3. Hand-Burnished Edges Before a product is finished, the edges are carefully burnished. This process ensures the edges are smooth, rounded, and natural-looking. "Cut Line" employs its own unique edge-finishing technique. First, sandpaper is used to repeatedly smooth any sharp edges. Then, an edge sealant is applied to create a flat surface, repeated 2-3 times. This is followed by a layer of edge wax, and then the edges are repeatedly polished with a burnishing tool until they achieve a smooth finish. 4. Hand-Dyed Leather For our hand-dyed products, "Cut Line" currently uses imported Fiebing's leather alcohol dyes from the United States. To achieve a uniform and natural coloration, we begin by slightly dampening the leather surface. Then, using a sponge, the dye is applied layer by layer, gradually deepening the color until the desired shade is reached. Once dry, a fixative is applied to enhance colorfastness. A light application of water is also used to wipe the surface, removing any dust and further evening out the color. As each piece is hand-dyed, there are subtle variations in color between individual bags, making each one unique.
