【Hui Wai x Hong Kong Local Shop: Wing Hing Bicycle】 Owner: Chung Hon Keung District: Yau Tsim Mong Address: Shop B3, G/F, Liberty House, 250 Ferry Street, Yau Ma Tei I met Mr. Chung, the owner, in 2014 while I was sketching at Nathan Road in Sino Centre. He invited me to sketch at his bicycle shop. Having lived in Yau Ma Tei for over 20 years, I finally drew my first piece for a neighborhood shop, rediscovering my own place of growth. I spent 5-6 days sketching on-site. Mrs. Chung works alongside Mr. Chung. When asked about her first impression of Mr. Chung repairing bicycles, she smiled and replied, "I thought he was very skilled!" In that moment, I felt that this was the essence of a happy, small shop life. *** I'm drawn to Hong Kong's local shops because owners remember customers' preferences, there's space for casual chats, and their personalities shine through. Most of my artworks are created on-site at these local shops, capturing the subtle interactions between owners and customers through the act of drawing.
