Material Selection The cowhide used by "Cut Line" is all A-grade, high-fat vegetable-tanned leather from Italy. As it is a natural material, and the tanning process used by the tannery is a vegetable-tanning method that causes less damage to the leather, there are inevitably a small number of "scars," "wrinkles," and "veins" on the leather surface. We do our best to avoid these during the cutting process, or place them on less visible or non-load-bearing parts of the product. 2. Pure Hand Stitching We do not use sewing machines to produce our products; all items are hand-stitched. Before stitching, special awls are used to punch stitch holes in the leather, which is how the beautiful wavy stitch effect is achieved, differentiating it from machine stitching. Although this significantly increases production time, it is a crucial step where the leather artisan imbues the piece with soul and a gentle feel. 3. Hand-Burnished Edges Before finishing, the edges of the leather are burnished and sealed. To make the edges appear smooth, rounded, and natural, "Cut Line" has its own unique edge-finishing method. First, sandpaper is used to repeatedly smooth the sharp edges. Then, an edge sealant is applied to make the edges appear flat, and this process is repeated 2-3 times. Finally, a layer of edge wax is applied, and the edges are repeatedly polished with a burnishing tool until they look smooth. 4. Hand-Dyed Leather For our hand-dyed products, "Cut Line" currently uses imported Fiebing's leather alcohol dyes from the United States. To achieve even and natural coloring, we first dampen the leather surface with water. Then, we apply the dye repeatedly with a sponge, gradually deepening the color until we achieve the desired shade. After drying, a fixing agent is applied to enhance color fastness. We also apply water to the leather surface to remove any surface dust and further even out the color. Because the dyeing is done entirely by hand, there are subtle variations in color between each bag, making each one unique.
