Material Selection The cowhide currently used by "Cut Line" is all A-grade, high-fat vegetable-tanned leather sourced from Italy. As it is a natural material, and the tannery uses vegetable tanning methods that cause minimal damage to the leather, the surface may inevitably have minor "scars," "wrinkles," or "veins." We do our best to avoid these during the cutting process or place them on less visible or non-stressed areas of the product. 2. Pure Hand Stitching We do not use sewing machines to craft our products; all items are meticulously hand-stitched. Before stitching, special pricking irons are used to create stitch holes in the leather, which is how we achieve the beautiful wavy stitch effect, distinct from machine stitching. Although this significantly increases production time, it is a crucial step where leather artisans imbue the piece with soul and a warm, tactile feel. 3. Hand-Burnished Edges Before finishing, the leather edges are burnished and sealed. This process ensures the edges appear smooth, rounded, and natural. "Cut Line" employs its own unique edge-finishing method. First, sandpaper is used to repeatedly smooth the sharp edges of the leather. Then, an edge sealant is applied to create a flat appearance, repeated 2-3 times. Following this, a layer of edge wax is applied, and the edges are repeatedly burnished with a polishing tool until they achieve a smooth finish. 4. Hand-Dyed Leather For our hand-dyed products, "Cut Line" uses imported Fiebing's leather alcohol dyes from the United States. To achieve even and natural coloration, we first dampen the leather surface with water. Then, the dye is applied layer by layer with a sponge, gradually deepening the color until the desired shade is reached. After drying, a color-fixing agent is applied to enhance colorfastness. We also wipe the leather surface with clean water to remove any surface dust and further even out the color. Because the dyeing is entirely done by hand, there are subtle variations in color between each bag, making every piece unique.
