Shuifei Sand, Emperor Sand, Zijin Sand, and Crystal Sand are all high-content quality cinnabar. Their **main differences lie in color, texture, hardness, and production methods**.
**「Shuifei Sand」**
**True red, with a slight orange undertone. The surface has a warm, matte finish that will become more lustrous with wear, forming a patina.**
The production method involves repeatedly grinding fine cinnabar particles into a paste, mixing with water, and after settling, collecting the upper "turbid liquid." This is then allowed to settle again (the water-floating purification method). The bottom cinnabar mud is air-dried and then pressed using ancient methods. Uniform, fine mineral shimmers can still be seen on the cross-section.
**「Emperor Sand」**
**The color leans towards true red, with a brighter luster and higher hardness.**
The production method involves multiple stages of purification from natural cinnabar ore, including **crushing/grinding/magnetic separation/water-floating/high polishing**, followed by ancient pressing methods. Emperor Sand has almost no external mineral shimmer but possesses internal shimmers; the surface uses **high polishing** techniques to achieve a metallic texture, especially under sunlight, enhancing its metallic sheen.
**「Zijin Sand」**
**The color is purplish-red, with slightly lower hardness than Emperor Sand.**
The production method involves multiple stages from natural cinnabar ore, such as **crushing/grinding/screening**, but **without water-floating purification**. Therefore, the surface is not as fine and has scattered mineral shimmers like small particles, creating a "starry sky" effect.
**「Crystal Sand」**
**The color is purplish-red and translucent.**
Large cinnabar particles directly chipped from the cinnabar ore. The crystalline particles are clearly visible on the surface, becoming translucent under light and emitting a fluorescent red glow.
**> Spring Plowing, Autumn Harvest**
**In this world, anything that unfolds gracefully, anything poetic, anything beautiful, often happens naturally, just like the turning of the seasons.**
**Learn to slow down, clear your mind, treat life with gentleness, respect the power of time, and let everything grow naturally, like a tree, growing with focus and without fear, developing clear growth rings.**

**> Cinnabar**
In the earliest written records, cinnabar was referred to by a single character, "丹" (dān). "丹" is an ideogrammatic character. Ancient people dug mine shafts, and from within these shafts, they extracted minerals. Thus, the character "丹" is essentially the character "井" (jǐng, well) with a dot in the middle, signifying something extracted from a mine shaft. This something was cinnabar.
Because cinnabar is red, mostly a deep red, "朱" (zhū) also means red. Later, cinnabar was called "朱砂" (zhūshā), where "丹" and "朱" describe the color, and "砂" describes the shape, referring to irregular granular minerals.
The color of cinnabar is enduring. Chinese calligraphy and painting are known as "丹青" (dānqīng), where "丹" refers to cinnabar. The indispensable "Eight Treasures Seal Paste" also has cinnabar as its main component.
From a Feng Shui perspective, cinnabar is collected from minerals that gather the essence of the sun and moon, absorbing the positive energy of heaven and earth. Therefore, cinnabar possesses a very strong yang energy magnetic field. We can observe that jade feels cool in the hand, while cinnabar feels warm.
Since ancient times, cinnabar has been used in Taoist rituals for drawing talismans, consecrating objects, warding off evil, and suppressing malevolent forces. Cinnabar has always been regarded as a supreme treasure for inviting good fortune, changing luck, suppressing malevolent forces, driving away evil spirits, attracting blessings, and accumulating wealth. It carries auspicious meanings of overwhelming good fortune, wealth, and well-being.
The *Shen Nong Ben Cao Jing* (Classic of Materia Medica) lists cinnabar as a superior herbal medicine, often used in treatments for calming the spirit, detoxifying, and alleviating insomnia and excessive dreaming.
Living in modern times, owning one or two cinnabar artifacts can also cultivate one's character and soothe the eyes and heart.
**> Identification**
**All cinnabar products in our store are high-content cinnabar with a significant weight. You can use the following methods for identification:**
>. Burning cinnabar will turn it black. (Please heat with an intermediary object. It is generally not recommended to directly burn finished products as controlling the time and area is difficult. If it turns black after prolonged exposure, it cannot be restored.)
>. Genuine cinnabar can draw orange-red lines on paper. (To avoid damaging the appearance of the finished product, please scratch in an inconspicuous area or use the complimentary bead for testing.)
**> Care**
**If cinnabar jewelry does not have metal or plant-based components (such as wood, bamboo, bodhi seeds, etc.), it can be lightly exposed to water, but prolonged immersion is not advisable as it will affect the luster.**
**For corded styles, contact with water is not recommended. After cleaning, allow them to air dry before wearing, as damp cords can lead to excessive moisture on the body, which is not beneficial.**
1. Avoid Corrosives
Cinnabar is a mineral and insoluble in water, but frequent contact with chemicals like soap and shower gel can cause corrosion.
2. Avoid Contact with Metal Objects
The mineral elements in cinnabar can absorb metal ions, causing irreversible dulling or blackening of the cinnabar.
3. Avoid High Temperatures
The mercury sulfide component in cinnabar only releases at temperatures of 380 degrees Celsius. Therefore, as long as cinnabar jewelry is kept away from high-temperature environments, it can be worn with confidence.
4. Avoid Collisions with Hard or Sharp Objects
Cinnabar has high hardness but is brittle; take care to prevent drops.
5. How to Clean
If the cinnabar appears dirty, do not soak it in water, as this will alter its original luster! Gently wipe it several times with a slightly damp cotton cloth and let it air dry for a while.
6. Oiling Method for Maintenance
Apply a layer of white tea oil or olive oil to the finished product, allowing the stone surface to absorb the oil, making it more lustrous and clear. If applying oil, seal it in a brocade box, perhaps with a layer of plastic wrap to prevent the oil from staining the brocade lining.
7. Frequent Handling
Regularly handle the cinnabar jewelry worn on your person with your hands. This allows a very thin layer of oil to coat the surface, giving it a more ancient and elegant appearance over time.
The actual item is more exquisite and beautiful than the photos.
