Wu Xia works as an ironing lady in a garment factory, and her poem beautifully depicts her work environment. Fantata Studio began its journey within a clothing factory. Every day on my way to work, I would pass through the sewing and ironing workshops. In the summer, seeing the steam rising from the irons and sweat beading on the workers' faces, I always felt a deep sense of their hard work as they meticulously pressed each garment and placed it into baskets. It often made me wonder what was on their minds as they performed these repetitive tasks. So, when I read Wu Xia's poem, I was deeply moved. Clothing studios are intimately connected with the factory workers; behind every beautiful garment lie numerous painstaking processes undertaken by these artisans. These processes are like silent landscapes, interwoven with the quiet joys and unspoken sighs of their lives. The dress leaves with a wound, only to heal on the bodies of diverse individuals. The essence of the Fantata brand has always been about creating designs for different people. For us, design is akin to a diary entry, or perhaps a letter. A diary is written for oneself, while a letter is delivered to another. All our designs draw inspiration from fragments of life, reassembled and stitched back into life itself. Reading this poem inspired an immediate desire to create a slip dress for Wu Xia. Thus, I reached out to Wu Xia. Sister Xia generously shared her preferred design elements and styles, which, combined with Fantata's aesthetic and our yearning for the sea, gave birth to the "Sea Wave Slip Dress." Regrettably, due to the pandemic, we were unable to meet as planned. I eagerly anticipate seeing how Sister Xia looks in the dress. Design Inspiration The origin of all life lies in the sea. Whether you hail from a city that never sleeps or a town bathed in sunset hues, everything that arises and is connected to the ocean is fundamentally a migration of life's aesthetic. We wish to convey the sea breeze and the waves to you through the medium of clothing. These three-dimensional wave-like pleats They are rhythmic, yet free-spirited and dynamic. They imbue this slip dress with depth, vitality, and a lively charm. Craftsmanship Details Beyond the initial communication with Sister Xia, the design and development of this slip dress has perhaps been the most challenging style we've developed this year. The craftsmanship underwent months of back-and-forth adjustments, with countless visits to the pleating factory. This is not your standard pleated design; we considered its unique nature and the chosen fabric. Each time we produced a sample, the pleating master would spend three hours adjusting the machinery. We experimented with the fabric repeatedly, but without achieving the desired effect, nearly giving up. That is, until we encountered this truly surprising material. It's important to note that most pleated fabrics are made of polyester due to their shape-retention properties. However, many polyesters can appear of lesser quality and feel quite stifling. But this fabric incorporates cotton and Coolmax fibers, a technological fabric from DuPont. It is light and soft to the touch, yet highly breathable. It offers excellent moisture-wicking, wrinkle resistance, and breathability, rivaling triacetate and unlike ordinary polyester. Its shape-retention is excellent. As long as you avoid excessively high temperatures and opt for gentle washing, it will not easily lose its shape. We've also brought you three colors: The seafoam blue of soaring gulls and trailing waves, the sea salt white of moonlit shores, and the harbor black of silent returns. About the Silhouette The silhouette is a flattering and elegant slight A-line, with a generously wide hem that moves with grace and poise. The shoulder straps are integrated with the armholes, effectively concealing any underarm concerns, and adjustable buckles have been added to the straps. The length can be freely adjusted to suit your desired style. A Japanese YKK invisible zipper is also featured on the side, and it has pockets! (A signature feature of Fantata dresses) Making it easy for you to put on and take off freely. The length falls between the calf and the ankle, creating a visually pleasing length that is perfect for the sweltering summer. We offer it in three colors: the natural and pure freshwater blue, the clean and elegant white, and the slimming and sophisticated black. Finally, a share of this slip dress: Sister Xia's beautiful dream. "Slip Dress" The packaging workshop is brightly lit. I hold the electric iron in my hand, gathering all the warmth of my hands. First, I will iron the shoulder straps, so they don't dig into your shoulders when hung there. Then, I will begin ironing from the waist. What a lovely waist, perfect for resting a fair hand, caressing a quiet love on a tree-lined avenue. Finally, I will unfold the hem of the skirt, ensuring the width of every pleat is even. So that by the lake or on the lawn, you can wait for the wind to blow. You can also run, but make sure the skirt billows with a beautiful arc, like a flower. And then, I will be off work. I will wash my sweat-soaked work clothes. I have folded them neatly and packed them. The slip dress will be shipped out of the workshop, heading to some market, some fashion boutique, to await, on some afternoon or evening, the one and only you, a stranger.
