Lin Shouyu Richard LIN Taiwan 1933-2011, a descendant of the Lin family in Wufeng, graduated from Jianguo High School. In 1949, he went to London, England, to study architecture and fine arts. He once taught at a famous British art college and served as a tutor at the Royal College of Art. In 1958, he began to hold solo exhibitions in many contemporary galleries in London. In 1961, he won the Encouragement Award from the British Society of Modern Art. In 1966, he won the first prize in the British public painting exhibition held by the Oersted Gallery. In the 1960s and 1970s, while engaged in extreme painting creation in the UK, he made an important contribution to giving the "blank" space in Chinese literati paintings a "modern" meaning. His works are widely collected by European and American art museums. Known for his minimalist paintings and installations, he has pushed the accuracy and purity of minimalism to the extreme, and is rich in rational thinking and philosophical implications. Lin Shouyu's most famous "White Series" skillfully uses various whites with different shades, weights, transparency and opacity, proportions and densities on blank canvases. Sometimes he breaks the pure white world with a few slender and straight color lines, as if he has condensed his emotions and left a cold crack in the sky of the universe.
