Collected Essays – 2019 Taoyuan Museum of Fine Arts Research Publication on Calligraphy Collection

For its calligraphy collection, the Taoyuan Museum of Fine Arts invited four researchers to contribute essays: Professor Lee Yu-Chou, visiting professor at the Department of Chinese Painting and Calligraphy Art, National Taiwan University of Arts; Dr. Tsai Yao-Ching, from the National Museum of History; Professor Lee Szu-Hsien, associate professor at the Department of Fine Arts and director of the Taiwan Art Research Center, Tunghai University; and Professor Lu Ting-Ching from the College of Design, Shih Chien University. Professor Lee Yu-Chou selected and analyzed four works by Ding Zhipan, Wang Zhuangwei, and Zhang Longyan, Chinese calligraphers who relocated to Taiwan after 1949, examining the formation and comparative styles of their calligraphy. Dr. Tsai Yao-Ching focused on Tsang Chen-pai, the most extensively collected calligrapher at the museum, centering his analysis on prominent cursive script pieces within the collection to trace Tsang’s life and the evolution of his cursive style. Director Lee Szu-Hsien discussed the aesthetic significance and contemporary representations of the museum's calligraphy collection, exploring the overall literary and artistic expression within the existing works. Professor Lu Ting-Ching provided an appreciation of works by calligraphers Song Jin-yin, Liang Han-chao, and Fu Chuan-fu from the Taoyuan Museum of Fine Arts' calligraphy holdings.
