We carefully select our pieces during the cutting process, aiming to avoid these imperfections or place them on less visible or non-stressed areas of the product. 2. Hand-Stitched Seams Our products are not made using sewing machines; all items are meticulously hand-stitched. Before stitching, special diamond chisels are used to punch stitch holes in the leather, which is essential for achieving the beautiful, wave-like stitch pattern that distinguishes our work from machine-sewn goods. While this significantly increases production time, it is a crucial step where the leather artisan imbues the piece with soul and a warm, tactile feel. 3. Hand-Burnished Edges Before a piece is finished, the leather edges are carefully burnished and sealed. This process ensures the edges appear smooth, rounded, and natural. "TANGENT LINEAR" employs its own unique edge-finishing technique. First, sandpaper is used to repeatedly smooth any sharp edges. Then, an edge-sealing liquid is applied to create a flat surface, repeated 2-3 times. Finally, a layer of edge-sealing wax is applied, and the edges are repeatedly burnished with a polishing tool until they achieve a smooth finish. 4. Hand-Dyed Leather For our hand-dyed products, "TANGENT LINEAR" currently uses imported Fiebing's leather alcohol dyes from the United States. To achieve a uniform and natural coloration, we begin by dampening the leather surface with water. Then, using a sponge, we apply the dye repeatedly, gradually building from light to deep tones until the desired color is achieved. Once dry, a color-setting agent is applied to enhance colorfastness. We also gently wipe the leather surface with clean water to remove any surface dust and further even out the color. As each piece is hand-dyed, subtle variations in color exist between individual bags, making each one uniquely distinct.
