Okame Cherry Blossom | Variety Name: オカメ (Okame) A hybrid variety developed in the UK from the Taiwan Cherry (寒緋櫻) and Fujine (豆櫻). Its petals are a delicate pink. This single-petal cherry variety leans towards the red spectrum. In Taiwan, its blooming season typically follows Chinese New Year. While Tokyo often celebrates the Yoshino Cherry in early April, the Okame cherry blossoms earlier, around mid-March, notably near Nihonbashi. The "Nihonbashi Ajisai Dori" is known as Okame Cherry Blossom Avenue. The specimen features a developed root base and a trunk approximately 1cm in diameter, with primary branches already well-positioned. This is the last available piece, a medium-sized specimen with a winding, free-spirited style. While blooming flowers are a delight, abundant foliage is equally pleasing. When the foliage becomes too dense, lower leaves are shaded and may drop in the second season, creating a hollow appearance where only the outer perimeter retains leaves. It is essential to guide the branches outwards at a 30-60 degree angle before the lower leaves fall. Even light exposure encourages the extension of new branches from the lower leaves.
