In the ocean, manta rays are sometimes caught by fishermen and sold at fish markets as an economic species. However, their flesh is not very palatable and has a strong fishy odor, making their value in the fish market far less than the tourism benefits they bring when swimming freely in the sea. Taiwan officially banned the catch of the star species of manta rays, the Spotted Eagle Ray, on August 15th of this year, making Taiwan a country quite friendly to the Spotted Eagle Ray from now on!
