Primarily found in grasslands and shallow hills of central and southern plains, it nests in hidden grassy areas and is a terrestrial owl. Its diet mainly consists of rodents, but it faces threats from widespread rodenticide use in fields and habitat loss, making it a critically endangered wild animal in Taiwan. ⁂ Wishing you all the good luck in the world. ⁂ Collared Owlet | *Taiwan endemic subspecies* Pronounced similarly to "xiū liú" in Mandarin, also known as the Collared Owlet, it is Taiwan's smallest owl, measuring approximately 15-17 cm in length. Inhabiting mid-to-low altitude broadleaf forests, it is semi-crepuscular, unlike most owls. A pair of intriguing dark "false eyes" on the back of its head serves to deter predators. When perched on a tree, its round, plump form resembles a small gourd. ⁂ True friends are never apart. Maybe in distance but never in heart. ⁂ Collared Scops-Owl | *Taiwan endemic subspecies* A small-to-medium-sized owl with a pair of ear-tufts resembling a cat's ears, which it raises when alert. It perches in dense forests during the day and becomes active after dusk. It prefers to inhabit low-altitude broadleaf forests, and can even be found in parks or school campuses with large trees, living in close proximity to humans.
