Rooted, but Flow Lightweight Shopping Bag

Virginia Woolf was one of the most influential modernist writers of the 20th century in Britain, renowned for her stream-of-consciousness writing style and a significant figure in feminist literature. This sentence is from her work "The Waves." The novel features six protagonists. Because it's written in a stream-of-consciousness style, it's quite abstract. I found it a bit challenging to read. But the beautiful phrasing allows you to see, between the lines, the foam and spray of waves crashing against rocks, and the refracted yellow light. It also offers a glimpse into the inner struggles and growth of the six characters. My own interpretation of this sentence is: As a biological female, you can freely choose the people, things, and the person you want to become. There are several translations of this sentence. I found two versions: One is more colloquial, the other more poetic. "I have roots, but I am fluid." "Deeply rooted, yet flowing like waves." I'd also like to recommend a film: The 2002 movie "The Hours." I rented it on Apple TV before. The main characters are three actresses I greatly admire: Nicole Kidman, Julianne Moore, and Meryl Streep. One of them plays Woolf. The story unfolds on a single day across three women in different eras, intertwining and full of coincidences.
