A round single-flower vase in yamabuki yellow and matte glaze

This single-flower vase is crafted on a potter's wheel, inspired by a perfectly round sphere, using coarse red earthenware clay that imparts a tangible warmth characteristic of pottery. The upper portion is finished with a unique, beautifully crystalline yamabuki (Japanese for 'mountain gold') yellow glaze, while the lower section features a warm, inviting matte glaze. The earthy quality of the red clay contributes to the warm finish of this vase. All processes, from clay preparation and forming to trimming, drying, bisque firing, glazing, and final firing, are meticulously handled by hand in my studio, which is equipped with an electric potter's wheel and a medium-sized electric kiln. Due to the porous nature of pottery, this vase has been treated with a waterproofing agent to prevent leakage. This treatment is effective for approximately 40 hours, but slight condensation may still appear at the base due to evaporating moisture. If this is a concern, placing a cloth coaster underneath can provide a more comfortable user experience. I continuously explore the potential of various glazes and clays, seeking the best combinations to create pottery of diverse colors and forms.
